Late 2011 Kimichi Records came together with the idea of creating hits that would make it to the top of the charts. Hanif Chito (CEO/Producer) and Dane Sortie (Composer/Producer) had no Idea that with their first compilation riddim alone that the label would accomplish just that. Currently #1 for the last two weeks on a UK Radio chart the two songs “Can’t take the Stress (World Quake Riddim)” and “Weh Yuh Deh” which both singles were composed and produced by Kimichi Records.
When the label was interviewed on ZIP Fm just last week, the labels Publicist, Reeva Proctor talked about the labels mission; mentioning something very important for the industry and that was to support Young and Upcoming talent worldwide. Currently the label has signed two upcoming artists to their label: Jamaica’s Squaddy and Canada’s Sampaloo. Since the artistes joined with Kimichi Records, both artists have received airplay on hot Jamaica stations such as; Linkz FM and Zip FM.
This weekend is the expected for the highly anticipated “Phoenix Riddim” featuring the top upcoming artists making moves in the Jamaica music industry. The riddim has not only deejays but Singjay’s, singers, and even a female dancehall artiste from the UK. The indie/undergound/dancehall sound is guaranteed to capture those who listen to rock, punk, reggae, dancehall, hip hop and more.
At the beginning of December the label signed an Exclusive Distribution contract with 21st Hapilos aka Johnny Wonder; the man known to make songs like “Clarks” by Vybz Kartel, Overproof Riddim, and even more recently “Only Man She Want” Remix by Popcaan and Busta Rhymes international hits. With 21st Hapilos on their side, and YuhSeeYou Entertainment and Publicity; A upcoming Publicity Firm that has been making big movements in the Music Industry, the labels future looks to be very successful.
