Jamaican Recording Artist Toian Set To Release Debut EP Retrospect

Couch Mode
Reggae recording artist Toian is set to release her debut EP titled " Retrospect" on March 17th 2015 (Available for Pre-Order Today). Using music as her vehicle to share her past experiences and love for life, Toian and producer Sean Alaric took this opportunity to design a body of work, which reflects just that. One may say, how is that? Or this sounds so cliché? Yet the 22 year old eclectic reggae artist creates a vivid image for the listener through each song; an image that you too can somehow relate to or reflect on a time or event in your life. How is that you may ask?

Toian first single off her debut EP Rude Boys became an anthem for many young ladies who were able to reminisce defying the orders of their parents and dating that young man despite being told he is not good for you. For Toian its an experience she took to pen and paper quite some time but kept them hidden away admitting that she didn't have the courage to show anybody because they didn't satisfy what her musical criteria was at the time. The single, which is reminiscent of Dawn Penn's, 'No No No' received numerous accolades from major players in the music industry like, MTV Jams, MTV Iggy and largeup.com just to name a few.

Throughout the EP you can hear tracks, which makes celebrating ones unique-style despite what others may think is fashionable. Style & Fashion is the second track on the EP (Retrospect) another female anthem reminiscence of the 1978 track by Althia & Donna title "Uptown Top Ranking". Toian gives you a modern day anthem for females who choose to set trends and not follow the pack and lead in their Style & Fashion. You can also hear Toian's love for dancehall artist Super Cat on this track as she gives you a DJ-ing style and pays homage to one of her favorite DJs of all time Super Cat.

Next To Me highlights the magnificent work and chemistry between an artist and producer. Sean Alaric of Class One Music does an excellent job producing the entire EP, yet on this track he highlights the vocal sultry ability and warmth Toian hones, allowing her fans to feel a sense of connection through her music. Automatically one can relate to being in a relationship and coming so close to breaking up, after the arguments and numerous goodbyes yet, somehow he or she ends up right "Next to Me".

Toian second single off Retrospect titled Love It, has a feel of 1968 Slim Smith & The Uniques track 'My Conversation'. The mellow rocksteady melody and dubby vocal filters create a vibe fit for a nice sunny day riding around with that special someone. The traditional reggae vibe meets modern day R&B vocal embodies the vibe throughout this EP.

Retrospect is five tracks of Reggae vibe intermixing past, present and future reflecting on some of Toian's personal past experiences, which collectively fit to bear the name "Retrospect" . These songs are not only a reflection of Toian's past and life growing up in Montego Bay, Jamaica but is also inspired by one of her favorite eras in reggae music and artists such as Barrington Levy, Super Cat, Tenor Saw and Dawn Penn.
